What are FRCA Pastors Reading?

1 November 2021 by Wes Bredenhof

Last week we had our biannual Free Reformed ministers conference in Western Australia. One of the great things about such conferences is our so-called Tool Time. Here pastors share helpful books they’ve been reading. As I’ve done in past years, I’d like to share the list with you. After all, many of these books are going to be beneficial for you too — though probably not the one on the Hebrew Pi’el.

  • Clinton Arnold, Powers of Darkness: Principalities and Powers in Paul’s Letters
  • Reuben Bredenhof, Weak Pastor, Strong Christ
  • James Garretson (ed.), Princeton and the Work of the Christian Ministry (2 vols.)
  • Gary Gilley, This Little Church Went to Market
  • Sidney Greidanus, Preaching Christ from Psalms: Foundations for Expository Sermons in the Christian Year
  • Larry Hurtado, Destroyer of the Gods: Early Christian Distinctiveness in the Roman World
  • Ernst Jenni, Das hebräische Pi’el : Syntaktisch-semasiologische Untersuchung einer Verbalform im Alten Testament (an English summary by Dr. R. Dean Anderson is available here)
  • Wayne Mack, Strengthening Your Marriage

  • Albert Mohler, The Gathering Storm: Secularism, Culture and the Church (read my review here)
  • James Spiegel, The Making of an Atheist: How Immorality Leads to Unbelief
  • Dolf te Velde et al. (ed.), Synopsis Purioris Theologiae (3 vols.) (read my review of vol. 1 here)
  • Carl Trueman, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution (read my review here)
